march: Soul and Spirit
The point of this class to explore how man is a composite of both body and soul. A materialist view of man that ignores any spiritual component is unable to explain key faculties possessed by human beings, such as thinking and willing. We also explore the implications of man’s being both body and soul, namely that the soul has an origin and that the soul has a destiny.
Questions covered in class
What are activities proper to human beings alone?
How would a secular humanist explain these properties? What are the limitations of that explanation?
What is the soul? Why do we need to account for a spiritual component of man?
Can the soul take its origin from matter? What is its source?
Does the soul cease to exist when the material part of man corrupts at death?
